Is AEO replacing SEO?

AEO is not replacing SEO, it is layered on top of it. Answer engine optimization still depends on a page being crawlable, indexable, and reasonably well ranked, since most answer engines draw their sources from an existing web index rather than a separate database.

What changes is the writing style AEO rewards: concise, direct answers with clear sourcing, versus the longer, keyword dense pages that older SEO advice sometimes encouraged. Sites that update their writing style but ignore technical SEO basics still struggle to get cited.

The safest framing is that AEO adds a second scorecard to the same underlying work, rather than a wholesale replacement of it.
